Several months ago, Coaches Farnsworth and Mattice held a meeting for the parents. They felt that this group of boys could win the OMHA title. The parents and kids were all on board to play hockey into the spring!! On a sunny day this past Saturday, the Atom AE Otters fulfilled their goal and raised the cup.  In a season that started over 7 months ago, this group of kids has evolved into the epitome of a TEAM. 

Game 1, in Huntsville, of the semi finals against a strong Acton Tanners team proved to be a wake up call for the Otters. After going 9-0 through 3 series, adversity rang the Otters bell and in the end they answered with authority. The Tanners went up 1-0 at the 6 minute mark and shortly after were thwarted on several attempts with big saves from Cole Frasier. Cole showed us his improvement again by flashing his butterfly style!! After the Otters fell short, Acton scored again to make it 2-0 . Taylor Cottrill scored before the end of the first for a 2-1 Acton lead.

The Huntsville Atom AE Otters entered the Muskoka / Parry Sound Championships on the January 19th and 2Oth weekend in Humphrey / Mactier . After playing through a tough winless weekend previously in Peterborough, the lads were looking to re group and win the MPS cup.  First game against North Muskoka Saturday morning was called “ puzzling “ at best . Numerous penalties and waved off goals lead to a long overtime that ended in a 3-2 loss for the Otters.

Another W was chalked up in the column for the local lads on Saturday December 22nd . They faced off against the South Muskoka team in one of my favorite places, the old Bracebridge barn. After a first period which saw the Otters down a man three times , they didn’t let the referee take control of the game, they did. With the puck sliding by goalie Owen Buczek , Wes Farnsworth slid in to save a goal.

Saturday Dec. 15th at the Jack Bionda the local lads hit the ice against the Highland Storm. The Otters were put through their paces in the first period with the Storm making it a tight , back and forth affair. Taylor Cottrill got the lone goal in the first with only a few minutes left . The second period saw the boys put the pedal down and dominate the opposition .
