Atom AE Otters Make Finals at Port Carling Tournament
The Huntsville Atom AE Otters traveled to Port Carling on the weekend of November 25 – 26th for a tournament. Game 1 saw the Otters play the Almaguin Ice Devils. Cole Frasier and Owen Buczek played between the pipes. The Otters and Ice Devils have tangled before and the opposition have improved every game. Ice Devil goalie Ty Wortman stood tall again holding the Otters off the score sheet in the first period.

Heading into the second down 1-0 the Otters got on the board after Dmen Jack Lockwood and Alan East broke up three plays in a row before Taylor Cottrill fed it to Captain Cole Patey who buried the biscuit.Brayden Holman scored with 5 minutes left and then Patey scored on a great fake slapshot deke to make it 3-2 after 2. In the third, the Ice Devils came on strong scoring only 12 seconds in before the combination of Dmen Cole Punchard, Jake Hildebrandt and Tysen Robb , shut down 6 odd man rushes. The Otters got back on track which saw Kyle Mattice score from Patey and then Patey scored two more with a helper from Hildebrandt. Buczek got the win. Otters won 6-4.

Game two featured the Otters against the squad from Thamesford.  Cottrill opened the scoring from Patey. Heading into the second the Thamesford team continued their rough play and went up a goal . Tysen Robb fired a great shot on net from the point with Mattice cleaning up and burying the rebound. Patey scored to turn the game around but Thamesford came through with a 6-3 final in a chippy affair.  Goalie Owen Buczek, despite being ran into or over on a few instances, played a great game.

Game three for the Otters was against the team from Tweed. Cole Patey scored with only 37 seconds left in the first to make it 1-0 Otters. Period 2 saw Nathan Markle step up score two, one unassisted five hole and the other on a Lockwood feed. Cottrill scored to make it 5-0 heading into the third. Markle got his hatty on a dish from Patey and with thirty seconds left, Markle set up Lockwood who snuck one through a scrum. Final was 7-1 Otters.

Game four on Sunday featured the local lads in the A final against the Thamesford Attack and also against a “dog and pony show” performed by the referee.

Many of the Otters parents were looking for a rule book thinking we were supposed to be in a non contact tournament. The referee proved us wrong. Owen Buczek shut the door on numerous occasions with the Otters shorthanded, as would they would be the entire game. In the second period, a penalty ridden disgrace, Thamesford went up 1-0 with the Otters 2 men down. At the start of the second, with the Otters down 2 men again, the Attack scored to make it 2-0. In the third with the Otters down 2 men again, Thamesford scored to go up 3-0. Finally when the teams played 5 on 5 , the Otters got a goal from Patey and then started to apply the pressure. With the goalie pulled , Lockwood buried one from the point to make it 3-2 with 43 seconds left . Despite a final push, the Otters went down 3-2 . The Otters parents should be very proud of how the boys stood up to a bigger team, a rougher team and tried to battle through a game that saw an official put them down 2 men, 4 times. Truly a disgrace.

Next action for the Atom AE Otters will be Friday night when they throw on the jerseys and appear in the Huntsville Santa Clause Parade. On Sunday they travel to Sundridge for a tilt against Almaguin.
