St. Mary's Tournament 2016 - Game Three
Game three of pool play was against the winless New Hamburg Huskies.
It was do or die for Huntsville if they wanted to make it to the semi-finals.
This game started out as a slower paced, mostly even affair.
The hardest shots of the period were into both team benches, with the coaches scrambling for cover.
Taylor Cottrill eventually opened the scoring at 2:05 from Matt Clarke, and Huntsville controlled the balance of the period.
Early in the second a faux pas at the Huskies blue line, led to a New Hamburg breakaway. Parker Soberg-Dunn had to be sharp to keep them off the board.
The Huskies offered up a mistake of their own a few minutes later, with Taylor finishing off his matching breakaway with a nice goal, glove side high.
Huskies penalties at 5:45 then 2:45 helped Huntsville generate several great chances for Ben Aben out front, but nothing would go in, until a pile up in front the Huskies goal bounced a puck out to Teagen Bennett at 2:00
His great shot caught the inside of the far post and went in to get Huntsville a 3-0 lead.
Huntsville took a few penalties of their own in third period, but a solid PK on the first, and some wonderful goaltending by Parker on the second, kept the Huskies off the board.
A goal with only 0:16 seconds on the clock rounded out the offence.
End result Huntsville 4-0, giving Soberg-Dunn a shutout of his own, and the Otters a chance at making the playoffs.
