Minor Midgets with a Light bench...
Another thing Coach Rocky Clarke said in our Parent meeting was that the team was going to be a light... bench number wise... for the year.  He thought we would be fine as long as we don’t run into illness/Injuries or suspensions. Unfortunately for the Minor Midget Otters, they had all three situations this past weekend effecting their two games this weekend.

Friday night the Otters returned to Collingwood to play with two players out with injuries.  Walker Vietch received a knee injury in the last weekend game vs Collingwood and Marshall Clarke was out with a hip injury  from playing Haliburton last wekend.  Down to 11 out players, the team didn’t do well with the late game in Collingwood Friday night.   Adding insult to injury we had 3 players ejected from this game.   Jordan Dobson received a CFB penalty/suspension and Ryan Brunskill receiving a suspension for hitting a talkative on ice player  from the bench. Both Dobson and Brunskill have further suspensions to serve.  And Justin Doherty was ejected early in the 3rd period for a 10min misconduct after receiving a 4 minute head check penalty.

This left the team with 8 out players against the full strength Collingwood team.  The result was as expected of 7-2 in Collingwood’s favour. Nathan Zantingh and Chris Hudson scored and assisted on the goals for the Otters with the other assists going to Josh Zantingh and Cody Jones.

The next day Huntsville hosted the South Muskoka Bears Major team at their full strength.  This is the group that went to the final round last year in the OMHA Minor Midget  Division.

We had 9 out players dress for the game, 3 defensive players and 6 offensive, with Clarke returning to play but Chris Hudson was out due to  illness.   The game was completely in the Otters end of the arena with one or two possible scoring opportunities for the Otters.  N Zantingh did have one opportunity that he took full control of.  He came down the wing and outstretched the Bears defence, proceeded with a lovely toe drag and  undressed the  Bears goalie to get the puck into the far side of the net in the first period. Jared Stevens tapped that puck up to Zantingh.  Although the Otters were able to score one more, complements again of N Zantingh from Cody Jones, it wasn’t enough to match the Bears 8 goals.  Final score 8-2 for the Bears. The next game for the Minor Midgets is Tuesday night in Minden playing Haliburton at 9:30pm.
