Napanee Tournament a Success
Armstrongs Minor Midgets Clean house in the round robin portion of play at  the Napanee tournament on the weekend of Nov 22-24.

The Otter’s first met a Minor team from Mississauga area named Credit Valley on Friday at 1pm.  This was an aggressive game that the Otters prevailed with cool heads letting Credit Valley beat themselves since they could not stay out of the penalty box.   Credit Valley had 12 minutes in Penalties that the Otters capitalized on.  The only Otter Penalty was called as defenseman Duke Knox protected Otter goaltender Teagan Meredith from an opposing player crashing the net.   The final score of this game was 3-0. Goals were scored by Chris Hudson, Nathan Zantingh and Jared Stevens.  Assists credited to Marshall Clarke, Alex Dahl and Jordan Dobson.

The Otter then has a quick turn around to play their second game against the hosting Napanee Stars.  This was a very fast aggressive clean game and  had most of the fans watching it like a tennis game.  Both teams were well matched as was evident from the final score of 1-0 after 3 periods of play.  The lone goal scored in the second period was by captain Nathan Zantingh assisted by Stevens. The third game of the tourney had Huntsville playing Frontenac Flyers.  Unfortunately for the Flyers their bench was really light in numbers and their play suffered.  This seemed to transfer to our Otter team.  Although the Otters won the game 5-0 this was “not a well played game for us” quoting Head Coach Rocky Clarke.   Goals were scored by Dahl, Hudson, Dobson, Joshua Zantingh and N Zantingh with the helpers to Dobson, Rookie Cody Jones, N. Zantingh and J. Zantingh for 3.

The last game of the tournament was scheduled against Ennismore Sunday at 10 am and it was initially supposed to be a part of the Round Robin play.  However, since both Ennismore and Huntsville won all their repsective preceding games they would be scheduled for the Championship game later that day again.  Both teams and the Tournament Organizers decided to let the first game be the Championship game for the tourney.

The Ennismore team was bigger and quicker to the puck in all aspects of the game which showed by the score of 2-0 going into the 3rd period.  Ennismore then made a few mistakes that let the Otters have a 5 on 3 advantage in the Third Period that allowed them to tie the game up 2-2. As the momentum shifted both teams were playing with passion and grit.  Unfortunately for the otters with 3 minutes left to go Ennismore scored.  The Otters pulled goalie Trevor Lawson for the last minute of play that gave the Ennismore team opportunity to bury the empty net goal taking the game away from the Otters for a 4-2 final.  The Ennismore fans were complimentary to our team especially when they found out we were all minor age as compared to their Major team abilities the Minor Midget Otters have nothing to be ashamed about for this loss. The power play goals were scored by N Zantingh assisted by J Zantingh and Hudson, and J Zantingh assisted by N Zantingh.
