A Representative Hockey Program is a team that is eligible to compete for an OMHA, OHF, or Hockey Canada championship. Players must meet eligibility requirements based on age and residence. Teams are formed through an evaluation or tryout process. Participation in a representative program typically involves significant travel to various centres, depending on the teams involved.

Rep hockey involves additional commitments in terms of cost and time, but provides the added benefit of more ice time both for practices and games.

Games and practices could take place both during the week and on the weekend. Because of the requirement to coordinate with out of town teams, a Rep team's schedule is less consistent than that of a Local League team.

What leagues do our Rep teams participate in and how far do they travel?
Our rep teams participate in the Georgian Bay Minor Hockey League.

What rep teams does HMHA usually run?
In each age group, we typically form U9MD, U11, U13, U15 and U18. New for the 2026/27 season, we've added a U16 Rep team. HMHA will typically field a B Tier 1 and B Tier 3 team.

Why is the team called "B" team?
All minor hockey centres in Ontario are classified based on the size of population, hockey enrolment, etc. Huntsville is classified as a B centre, and in OMHA playoff rounds, they will compete against other similar sized centres.

When are Rep hockey tryouts?
Tryouts are held in the Spring. Please check the organization calendar for exact dates and registration information.

Who can try out for HMHA Rep hockey teams?
The OHF has removed any player movement restrictions for the 2025/26 season. Going forward, players may tryout at any centre. Read more on our Player Movement Cheat Sheet.

How much does Rep hockey cost?
In addition to a player's basic registration fees at the local league level, once your player has made the Rep program, an additional fee is paid to the HMHA to cover the cost of additional regular season ice and referees.

With the approval of the players’ families, team fees may also be charged to cover additional expenses that might consist of additional ice, tournament fees, team apparel, team functions, etc. Each team manager is responsible to provide players and families with a detailed budget for approval.

What is the time commitment for Rep hockey?
Most rep players will be on the ice approximately 3-5 times per week: generally 2 practices, plus 1 home and 1 away game per week, including and up to 5 tournaments.
