Rowan's Law - Mandatory Form prior to being Rostered
Submitted By Kelly Farnsworth on Friday, September 20, 2019
**Please Note: This applies to ALL Huntsville Minor Hockey Players (Initiation through Midget; LL, Rep, AE) and ALL Bench Staff and On Ice Volunteers.

ANYONE WHO DOES NOT SUBMIT THE SIGNED ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FORM WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO BE ROSTERED TO ANY HMHA TEAM THIS SEASON.

Rowan Stringer was a 17 year old Ottawa Varsity Rugby Player who died from sustaining multiple concussions, which resulted in a catastrophic swelling of her brain - second impact syndrome. The Government of Ontario passed Rowan's Law (Concussion Safety) on March 7, 2018. This requires the Ontario Hockey Federation to have a Concussion Code of Conduct and requires all of the participants to review the Ontario Government's issued Concussion Awareness Resources on an annual basis. This applies to all sports organizations, schools, programs and businesses in the province of Ontario, not just hockey under the OHF.

Huntsville Minor Hockey MUST collect a signed OHF Rowan's Law Acknowledgement Form from every player (and parent), Bench Staff Member and On-Ice Volunteer prior to those individuals being added to a roster for the 2019-2020 season.

Everyone must read the appropriate Rowan's Law Concussion Awareness Resource, the OHF Concussion Code of Conduct (Appendix A of the Acknowledgement Form) and then sign and date the OHF Rowan's Law Acknowledgement Form. These forms MUST be handed in prior to a team roster being approved for all HMHA teams. Rep/AE teams - please bring your signed form to the first practice after the team has been formed and hand it in to your coach or manager. For all Local League teams please bring your signed form to your first Evaluation Skate and hand it in at the Registration Desk or give it to your appropriate Division Convenor.
