TOURNAMENT FORMAT/RULES
1. All OMHA playing rules and tournament regulations shall be in effect not withstanding major penalties for fighting which will result in expulsion from the remainder of the tournament.
2. A team representative must register at the main registration desk at least 1 hour prior to the team’s first game. Team rep must bring a copy of the team’s official roster, travel permit and settle up any outstanding debt owed to the tournament.
3. EXPULSION FOR MAJOR PENALTIES AS STATED BELOW:
Fighting majors, match penalties, gross misconducts, or a second “checking from behind” penalty will cause a player to be suspended from the tournament. Suspensions received in tournament play, MUST be served in the tournament. Specifically, a 5-minute penalty that carries an automatic 1 game suspension will mean that the player will automatically sit the next scheduled game in the tournament. The game suspension will be served in regular league play if the suspension is in fact received in the final game of the tournament.
4. ELIGIBILITY:
All players and bench personnel must be certified as per OMHA or accepted equivalent. Team rosters will be limited to 19 players including goalies. All team must have a certified Trainer on the bench at all times.
5. HOME TEAM:
The Tournament Director shall designate the home team in all games. Home will be the light colour. In the event of conflicting colours, the home team shall change sweaters prior to the start of the game.
6. GAME PLAY INFORMATION:
All teams must be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game time. No teams are allowed on the ice to warm up without referees present. There will be a 3-minute warm up at the start of each game. The ice surface will be flooded after each game. Please vacate the dressing rooms 20 minutes after the conclusion of your game. All games will follow 10-10-15-minute stop time periods (except when the mercy rule is in effect). There will be no time outs or overtime during the preliminary rounds.
7. POINT SYSTEM:
Each team will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. The most points will determine top seeding in each division after the preliminary games.
8. PRELIMINARY ROUND AND PLAYOFFS:
U13B Tier 1
The preliminary round will consist of three games for each team. Following the preliminary round, the top two teams will receive a bye to the semi finals. The quarter-finals will consist of 3rd Place vs. 6th Place and 4th Place vs. 5th Place. The losing teams from quarter final games will be eliminated from the tournament.
Semi-Finals will consist of 1st Place vs. Winner of 4th Place vs. 5th Place, and 2nd Place vs. Winner of 3rd Place vs. 6th Place. The losing teams from semi finals will be eliminated from the tournament.
Finals will consist of the Winner of each of the semi final games.
U15B Tier 1
The preliminary round will consist of four games for each team. Following the preliminary round, the team in 5th Place will be eliminated from the tournament.
Semi finals will consist of 1st Place vs. 4th Place and 2nd Place vs. 3rd Place. The losing teams from semi finals will be eliminated from the tournament.
Finals will consist of the Winner of each of the semi final games.
U13B Tier 3 and U15B Tier 3
The preliminary round will consist of three games for each team.
Semi-finals will consist of 1st Place vs. 4th Place and 2nd Place vs. 3rd Place. The losing teams from semi finals will be eliminated from the tournament.
Finals will consist of the Winner of each of the semi final games.
9. DETERMINING RANKINGS:
In the event of a tie for a playoff position, the following process will be used to determine the ranking within each division:
A. Head to head winner,
B. The team with the largest goal differential percentage (as per the website),
C. Fewest goals against,
D. Fewest penalty minutes,
E. A coin toss.
10. QUARTER FINALS, SEMI FINALS and FINALS:
Quarter Finals and Semi Finals
The quarter and semi final games will be 10-10-15 minute stop time periods. In the event of a tie, quarter finals and semi-finals will be determined by a 3 player shoot out. The same player may not shoot twice, unless all skaters have previously shot.
Finals
The final games will be 10-10-15 minute stop time periods. In the event of a tie, sudden victory stop time elimination periods will begin as follows: 4 players and one goalie will play for each team for 2 minutes. If still tied, the teams will ice 3 players and 1 goalie for 2 minutes. If still tied, the teams will ice 2 players and 1 goalie for 2 minutes until the game is won. During sudden victory, substitutions may be made only during play. One time out is permitted in the championship game only.
11. FORFEIT:
In the case of a game forfeited, the opposing team shall be rewarded a 3-0 victory and 2 points for the win.
12. DISPUTES:
The Tournament Director will review all disputes and their decision will be final. The referee’s room is strictly off limits to all team personnel. All questions will be handled through the team manager and the Tournament Director.
13. MERCY RULE:
A 5 goal or more lead in the third period will result in straight time. Should the lead be reduced to less than 5 goals, the clock will return to stop time. No mercy rule will be in effect for quarter final, semi final or final games.
*During straight time – 2-minute penalties will be posted as 3 minutes and 5 minute penalties as 7 minutes.
