We are looking forward to hosting you on November 15-17, 2019.  Here are a few details to go over in preparation for this tournament:

Huntsville Minor Hockey Tournament General Information

  • you are guaranteed 3 round robin games in this tournament, 1 will be played Friday, and 2 on Saturday
  • 2 semi final games Sunday morning, and championship game will be early afternoon
  • Oliver's coffee is located right inside the Summit Centre across from the pool area and it will be open the entire time of our tournament selling hot beverages, sandwiches, soup, donuts etc.
  • The tournaments are sanctioned by Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA).  Hence the tournament will be conducted as per the rules and regulations of the OMHA.
  • Teams should be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to arrival should the tournament be running ahead of schedule.
  • By entering this tournament the coach or manager on behalf of their teams releases the OMHA, tournament committee and all officials, referees, sponsors, volunteers, arena management and all concerned with the tournament from any and all liability of injury or accident which may be incurred by any player or team official while participating in or coming to or going from the tournament.
  • The decision of the referees is final, no appeals will be heard.  The tournament committee reserves the right to make changes at any time due to unforeseen circumstances.  All decisions of the tournament committee are final

   HUNTSVILLE MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION TOURNAMENT RULES This is a NON-BODY CHECKING Tournament.
 
1.  All OMHA playing rules and tournament regulations shall be in effect not withstanding major penalties for fighting which will result in expulsion for the remainder of the tournament. 
 
2. A team representative must register at the Huntsville Summit Centre registration desk at least 1 hour prior to the team’s first game. The team rep must bring a paper copy of the team’s official roster, travel permit and settle up any outstanding debt owed to the tournament.
 
3. EXPULSION FOR MAJOR PENALTIES AS STATED BELOW: Fighting majors, match penalties, gross misconducts, or a second “checking from behind” penalty will cause a player to be suspended from the tournament. Suspensions received in tournament play, MUST be served in that tournament.  Any suspensions not served during the tournament must be served in regular league play for OMHA teams, including if the suspension is received in the final game of the tournament.
 
4. ELIGIBILITY: All players and bench personnel must be certified as per OMHA or accepted equivalent.  Team rosters will be limited to 19 players including goalies. All teams must have a certified Trainer on the bench at all times.
 
5. HOME TEAM: The tournament committee shall designate the home team in all games.  Home will be the light colour. In the event of conflicting colours, the home team shall change sweaters prior to the start of their game.
 
6. PRELIMINARY ROUND: All teams will be guaranteed 3 games.  All teams must be prepared to play 15 minutes prior to their scheduled game time. There will be a 3-minute warm-up at the start of each game.  The ice surface will be flooded after each game.  Please vacate the dressing rooms 20 minutes after the conclusion of your game.  All games will be three 10 minute, stop time periods.  (Except when mercy rule is in effect). There will be no overtime during the preliminary rounds.
 
7. POINT SYSTEM: Each team will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie and 0 for a loss. The top 2 teams in each division will advance to the playoff round. In the event of a tie for a playoff position, the following process will be used to determine the ranking within each division: 1) Head to head competition (only used if 2-way tie)                 2)    Highest goals for % as calculated on www.huntsvillehockey.ca  (Goals for / Goals for + Goals Against)                  3)    Goals For minus Goals Against      4)  Fewest goals against 5)  Least penalty minutes 6)  The Tournament committee will meet and decide on a further ruling, if required.
 
8. SEMIS/FINALS PLAYOFF GAMES:  The playoff games will be 10/15/15 minute stop time periods (no flood). In the event of a tie at the end of regulation, stop time sudden victory overtime will begin as follows:  15 minutes will be put on the timeclock and teams will play 3 on 3 plus a goalie until one team scores. Teams must change on the fly. If a player becomes injured, teams may substitute a player (with the opposing team being permitted a substitution as well). Penalties will result in the opposing team adding a player. If still tied at the end of the first overtime period, overtime periods will continue to be added, until one team scores, ending the game. One 30 second time out per team is permitted in playoff games.
 
9. FORFEIT: In the case of a game forfeited, the opposing team shall be awarded a 3-0 victory and 2 points for the win.
 
10. DISPUTES:  The tournament committee will review all disputes - their decision will be final. The referee’s room is strictly off limits to all team personnel.  All questions will be handled through the team manager and the Tournament Convenor.
 
11. MERCY RULE: A 5 goal or more lead in the third period will result in straight time.  Should the lead be reduced to 4 goals, the clock will return to stop time.  THE MERCY RULE WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT FOR SEMI-FINAL OR FINAL GAMES.
 
* During straight time – 2 minute penalties will be posted as 3 minutes and 5 minute penalties as 7 minutes*
