Atom Tournament Rules
GAME RULES: This is a NON BODY CHECKING Tournament.  



OMHA playing rules and tournament regulations shall be in effect not withstanding major penalties for fighting which will result in expulsion from the remainder of the tournament.  All other penalties shall be in accordance with OMHA rules.  Suspensions received in tournament play, MUST be served in that tournament.  Specifically a 5-minute penalty that carries an automatic 1 game suspension will mean that the player will automatically miss the next scheduled game in the tournament.  The game suspension will be served in regular league play if the suspension is in fact received in the final game of the tournament.   

Fighting majors, match penalties, gross misconducts, or a second “checking from behind” penalty will cause a player to be suspended from tournament.   

ELIGIBILITY:   All players and bench personnel must be certified as per OMHA or accepted equivalent.  Team rosters will be limited to 19 players including goalies.  

HOME TEAM:   The tournament committee shall designate the home team in all games.  In the event of conflicting colours, the home team shall change sweaters prior to the start of their game.   

GAMES:  All teams entered will be guaranteed 3 games. Three preliminary games with the possibility of a final game.   

PRELIMINARY ROUND: There will be 2-minute warm-up at the start of each game.  The ice surface will be flooded after each game.  Please vacate the dressing rooms 20 minutes after the conclusion of your game.  All games will be three 10 minute, stop time periods.  (Except when mercy rule is in effect)  There will be no overtime during the preliminary rounds.  NO TIME OUTS.   Each team will be awarded 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, and 0 for a loss. Semi-finals will be determined by the win/loss record of each team.  In the event of a tie for a playoff position, the following process will be used to determine the ranking  
  1. Head to head competition 
  2. The team with the largest goal differential (Goals For minus Goals Against) 
  3. Fewest goals against 
  4. Least penalty minutes 
  5. The Tournament committee will meet and decide on a further ruling, if required.     

FINALS:    The championship games will be three 10 minute stop time periods.   If tied at the end of regular play,  sudden victory stop time elimination periods will begin as follows:  4 players and one goalie will play for each team for 2 mins.  If still tied the teams will ice 3 players and 1 goalie for 2 mins.  If still tied the teams will ice 2 players and one goalie until the game is won.  Substitutions may be made only during play. 
1 – 30 SECOND TIME OUT PERMITTED PER TEAM IN CHAMPIONSHIP GAME   

FORFEIT:   In the case of a game forfeited for any reason, the scheduled opposing team shall be rewarded a win.    

DISPUTES:   The tournament committee will review all disputes, protests and misunderstandings and their decision will be final.   The referee’s room is strictly off limits to all team personnel.  All questions regarding the tournament will be handled through the team manager and the team tournament convenor.   

MERCY RULE:   A six goal or more lead in the third period will result in straight time.  Should the lead be reduced to less than 6 goals, the clock will return to stop time.  THE MERCY RULE WILL NOT BE IN EFFECT FOR FINAL GAMES.    

 *During straight time – 2 min. penalties will be posted as 3 min. and 5 min. penalties as 7 mins.
