Season Ends as Midgets Suffer Overtime Loss
The MBRP Major Midget Otters had their season come to an end this past weekend. A 2-1 overtime loss to Collingwood in Game 4 eliminated the Majors from the OMHA playoffs.

A series lead was up for grabs in Game 3, but the Otters could not capitalize on the opportunity. Both teams traded goals in the first period, with Kyler Campbell finding the back of the net on a breakaway for the Otters. The Hawks would take the lead in the second frame on a power play goal, but Huntsville would even the score with Ethan Murdy’s fourth of the series. Evan Dickson and Connor White would add assists on Huntsville’s goal. Another power play goal from the Hawks midway through the second period would stand as the eventual game winner. The Otters once again tried to draw even entering the third period, but Collingwood added to their lead with a shot that squeaked by goaltender Josh Lawson. Ultimately the two-goal deficit proved to be insurmountable and the Majors found themselves trailing the series 2 games to 1.

Back at the Eddie Bush on Sunday afternoon was a must-win for the Otters. For the first time in the series Collingwood opened the scoring, once again capitalizing on a Huntsville penalty. Nick Lavigne evened the score shortly thereafter with a blast from the point courtesy of White and Murdy. The play continued to swing back and forth with Tyler Miller making several crucial saves. The Collingwood goaltender managed to get some help from his goalposts, but played exceptional nonetheless. With the score tied at the end of the third period overtime would ensue. Neither team could find the back of the net and with just over two minutes to play Huntsville was whistled for a questionable penalty. The Otters penalty kill held their ground until a screened shot found its way past Miller and into the back of the net. The Collingwood bench emptied to end the series with only 11 seconds left on the clock.

The coaching staff would like to commend their third year players Connor White, Evan Dickson, Ethan Murdy, Blake Schmitz, and Nick Lavigne on the conclusion of their minor hockey careers. To the remaining players, thank you for such a memorable season, and best of luck continuing on with your minor hockey journey. Years from now nobody will remember the wins and losses, or the goals and assists; but rather the countless memories made with teammates, coaches, family, and friends.

An enormous thank-you to everyone else involved (players, parents, family members, HMHA staff etc) for making the last five years such a rewarding experience. The time and effort dedicated to coaching as non-parents was worth every single minute.
