PeeWee AE Otters Collect for Table Food Bank
Our Huntsville Honda PeeWee AE Otters conducted their own food drive for the Table Food Bank in Huntsville, bringing in over 450lbs of donated food.  Upon hearing about the empty shelves and dire situation our Food Bank was in, the boys donned their Otters gear and each headed out in their respective neighbourhoods, knocking on doors and asking for food donations.

Way to go Otters!!  You make us proud!

Sadly, the Table Food Bank is a much needed operation serving Huntsville and the surrounding area.  While at the Food Bank we were told that they service approximately 200 people each and every week who are in need of food to feed their families (reasons for this need vary widely from high rent to job loss to illness to low paying jobs and the list goes on).

We live in a wonderful community, where numerous businesses and individuals support our boys and girls in countless sports and clubs.  Without this tremendous support, many of our local youth would be unable to take part in the activities they love.  Our PeeWee AE Otters were looking for a way to give back to this generous community of ours and to help others who may be less fortunate as well.  Being a member of a representative team involves so much more than playing the game - learning how to be good ambassadors, demonstrating respect for others and giving a helping hand to those in need are just a few of the important life lessons that go along with representing our community, playing the game they love!

The boys received a positive response in each of their neighbourhoods while out collecting food, which further illustrates what a caring community we live in!

In a world where there is so much focus on the negative side of human nature, it is important that we celebrate the positive side as well.  A clear example of this involves the Collingwood Minor Hockey Association.  A couple of weeks ago, someone from their organization heard that our Huntsville Food Banks had empty shelves.  From this, they took it upon themselves to post an article on their hockey website asking all their families to donate food that they would bring with them when several of their teams were travelling to Huntsville to play our Otters teams.  Kudos to CMHA for their selfless act of charity and compassion for our community!  Your quiet display of humanity is very touching and greatly appreciated!  You can read the article that was posted by clicking on the following link:  http://collingwoodhockey.com/Articles/2012/Northern_hockey_town_needs_food/
